Laser facial refers to a diverse range of treatments including carbon laser facial, china doll facial or Hollywood facial, laser skin resurfacing and laser pigmentation removal. There are key differences between carbon laser treatment and laser genesis, and people have a preference for one or the other. We fall firmly into the camp of carbon laser facial treatments.
Carbon Laser Facial or China Doll Facial
The carbon laser facial has become popular as a skin rejuvenation treatment. It has acquired a bit of a cult following because post-treatment your skin has a porcelain-like look and feel- hence the name China doll facial. It has been picked up by Kim Kardashian and other celebrity and movie stars, so it also goes by the name Hollywood Facial.
How Does the Carbon Laser Facial Work?
The carbon facial works through using a laser to remove a carbon mask from your face. The laser used is of the wavelength 1064nm, which is highly attracted to pigment from brown to black. Hence it effects only surface skin cells and pores.
The first step of the carbon facial treatment is to massage carbon suspended in a liquid into the skin and allow it to dry. The black carbon penetrates skin pores. The entire face is then treated using the 1064nm wavelength laser to remove it. The action of the laser shatters the carbon in the pores and on the skin, removing dead surface skin and results in shrinking of skin pores, creating a porcelain look or feel.
Carbon Laser Facial vs Carbon Laser Peel
Mostly these are very similar treatments. However, there are key differences. The carbon laser peel relies on applying a thicker layer of carbon. When this is treated with the laser, it results in more a more superficial treatment and focuses more on exfoliation of surface skin cells. The carbon laser peel is popular on Instagram as it creates a dramatic image as the carbon is removed with the laser.
We have developed a signature Carbon Laser Treatment, which involves 2 or 3 step laser treatment, depending on your concerns. The carbon laser facial relies on massaging the carbon into pores, buffing excess carbon away from the skin surface. When the face is treated. In the carbon laser treatment, the laser is attracted more to the skin and pores, rather than just the carbon.
What is treated with the Carbon Laser Facial?
- As a monthly treatment to shrink large pore, blackheads
- After the procedure, you have a porcelain-like finish, smooth with tighter pores.
- Used as an acne treatment to unblock pores and assist in killing bacteria
- Though not specifically designed to treat pigmentation – it does.
- It can be used instead of microdermabrasion, jessner peels, extraction facials for a more spectacular result
Steps in China Doll Facial
Laser Facial or Laser Genesis
Laser Facial or laser Genesis utilises the low-level laser for bulk heating of the skin, to act as rejuvenation treatment for multiple skin concerns. There is no downtime, so it has become known as the lunchtime laser facial. Laser genesis is reported to be suitable for a range of skin conditions and to improve overall skin appearance. Laser Genesis is not a real laser treatment, however, and you should not expect dramatic results.
Our team will let you know whether a higher power laser, IPL, peel or other treatment are the more appropriate solution for your skin concerns. In our opinion, the carbon laser Peel or Hollywood facial provides a much more intense and beneficial laser facial.
Indigenous, Ethnic & Asian Skin Laser Facial
One of the more exciting new laser treatments in recent years is the Picocare & Picosure laser facial for darker skin types. The picosecond lasers pulse at 1 trillionth of a second to create photoacoustic shattering of pigmentation in the skin, without excess heating. Because darker skin has more melanin pigmentation, laser-induced optical breakdown stimulates collagen production post-treatment. It is optimal for skin whitening, treatment of pigmentation, reducing pore size and treating fine lines and wrinkles.
Laser Resurfacing with CO2 Laser
The CO2 Laser was the first laser invented for cosmetic skin treatments over 2o years ago. The CO2 laser was upgraded with the introduction of Fraxel laser and fractionated CO2 treatments. It remains the gold standard for resurfacing for severely sun-damaged skin, some types of acne scarring.
Laser Facial for Pigmentation Removal
Q switch nano and picosecond lasers have revolutionised laser pigmentation removal treatment. All types of pigmentation can be treated.
- Superficial (epidermal pigmentation) including freckles, age spots, melasma, cafe au lait and sun damage.
- Deep (dermal pigmentation) including ABNOM, Ito nevus, Ota nevus, Lentigines, Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation and deep melasma.
Radiofrequency, Ultherapy & IPL Photorejuvenation
There is a range of non-laser technologies that are commonly added to laser facial treatments. These include radiofrequency skin needling, sublative dermal stamping, ultherapy and IPL photorejuvenation and IPL broken capillary treatment. Although the laser can also be used for treating facial redness and broken capillaries, IPL remains the mainstay of facial treatments for redness.
Radiofrequency skin needling is excellent for skin tightening, treatment of acne scars and textural changes associated with sun damage and aging.
