Wrinkle Treatments Brisbane

face fillers, injections, lasers & creams.

Face Wrinkle Treatment

The treatment of wrinkles depends on the type where on the face or body they occur.
As a general rule:
Upper face wrinkles are treated with anti-wrinkle injections. (Include forehead wrinkles, eye wrinkles and frown lines)
Midface ageing is best treated with facial fillers.(Cheek wrinkles and volume loss)
Lower face ageing is treated with fillers or skin tightening or thread lifting.(lip  wrinkles, nasolabial lines, jowls )
Fine lines are best treated with skin resurfacing: radio frequency or laser skin resurfacing.
Neck wrinkle treatment, Chest wrinkle treatment and body wrinkle treatments are specialised.

Laser For Wrinkles

Laser treatment can help with some forms of wrinkles. But the best laser treatment for lines depends on the severity and whether the rhytides occurs on the face or body. Traditional laser skin resurfacing, with CO2 and Erbium lasers are still used. However newer more gentle lasers such as Laser Genesis and treatments called laser facials provide entry-level rejuvenation without the downtime of older lasers. Laser skin tightening, radiofrequency and ultrasound skin tightening as well as surgical options of thread lift and facelifting are options for more advanced wrinkle treatment and lines caused by skin laxity and sagging.

Anti-Ageing Cream

There are some active skincare ingredients used as anti-ageing or anti-wrinkle creams and serums that have scientific evidence to support their action. Ageing skin concerns include wrinkles, changes in skin texture, skin laxity and sagging, pigmentation, redness, dryness and enlarged pores. The essential active ingredients which help with these are vitamin A, B, C, cosmetic acids and sunscreen. There are also several other ingredients that help, depending, on the skin concern.

However, although necessary, there is a limitation to what can be achieved with skin care. And if you are serious about wrinkle treatment or other ageing concerns, medical treatment provide much better results. Sourcing affordable skin care becomes essential, as you can then save money to invest in-clinic procedures.

Wrinkle treatment options aim for correction or prevention and vary with the type of wrinkle.

Wrinkles and lines develop naturally over time from changes to your face. There are different treatments for wrinkles and lines, and the most appropriate are dependent on what has caused them and where they occur on your face.

  • Anti-wrinkle injections smooth wrinkles caused by facial movement.
  • Face fillers plump wrinkles & lines caused by volume loss.
  • Fine lines and wrinkles are treated with anti-wrinkle creams, peels and radiofrequency or laser resurfacing.

Face Wrinkle Treatment

Upper Face Lines

Forehead Wrinkle Treatment

Forehead wrinkles are caused by repeated expression of surprise or raising of the eyebrows. Forehead wrinkle treatment involves anti-wrinkle injections, face fillers or resurfacing. The frown lines which form between the eyebrows are best treated with anti-wrinkle injections.

Eye Wrinkle Treatment

Eye wrinkles or “crow’s feet” develop naturally from the repeated facial expression of smiling, squinting or laughter. Eye wrinkle treatment involves relaxing the eye muscles with wrinkle relaxers.

Under Eye Wrinkle Treatment

Under eye wrinkle treatment is different to lines that appear on the side of the eye. Though wrinkle relaxers can be used at times, it is best to approach these lines with resurfacing, laser or collagen induction therapy such as PRP injections.

Lower Face Lines

Lower face lines include cheek wrinkles, mouth wrinkles and fine lines and wrinkles. Lower face lines can also occur as nasolabial lines, marionette lines or smile lines which are best treated with facial fillers.

Lip Wrinkle Treatment.

Upper lip lines form naturally over time from volume loss around the mouth area &
Decrease in skin elasticity and from repeated lip movement. Factors such as sun, pollution, smoking and other environmental factors also impact on their appearance.

Dermal fillers can be used to reduce lip lines, increase lip border definition and rejuvenate the look of the mouth area.

Cheek Lines or Smile Lines

Cheek lines, smile lines or accordion lines appear as cascading face lines across cheeks when you smile. They are caused by muscle movement as well as loss of structural components in the skin such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

Fine lines & Wrinkles Treatment

Fine lines and wrinkles develop from a decrease in the collagen and elastin leading to a thinner poorly supported skin. Gravity then takes its toll causing your skin to sag. (charming I know)

Free radical damage from sun, stress, pollution and dietary sugar or smoking are significant factors causing changes in your skin texture. Excessive sugar in your diet or from diabetes speed this damage

Skin Resurfacing Treats Fine lines & Wrinkles

There are several approaches to managing the textural changes of fine lines & wrinkles. Resurfacing treatments vary in the degree of their effectiveness, downtime involved and the number of procedures required.

1. Microdermabrasion & Peel
Microdermabrasion and peels are minimally invasive and need repeated treatments to affect the result. They are only useful for new skin textural changes.

2. Radio-frequency Resurfacing
eTwo radio-frequency resurfacing can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve the surface texture. A series of 3 – 6 treatments is recommended depending on the severity of textural changes.

3. Radiofrequency Lower Face Volumising
The ePrime radio-frequency offers a non-surgical approach to help with jawline definition as well as improve lower fine lines & wrinkles and ‘cheek lines’.

Laser Wrinkle Treatment

Laser wrinkle treatment includes some approaches. Involved in this discussion are radiofrequency, ultrasound as well as lasers for wrinkle treatment.

Once again with laser wrinkle treatment which laser is best depends on what type of lasers and where on the face they occur, the severity of the rythides and the amount of downtime. Lasers can be used to treat other signs of facial ageing and sun damage such as skin redness, pigmentation and various ageing spots. Laser treatment for wrinkles tends to be restricted to more severe wrinkles, fine lines across the face and moderate to severe sun damage. However, any grade of wrinkling or facial ageing can be addressed.

Laser Facial for Wrinkle Treatment

In recent years gentle lasers have been developed to provide laser facials, the best known of these is laser genesis which works by delivering subtle improvement without downtime from side effects. A laser facial is considered an entry-level laser wrinkle treatment.

Laser Genesis addresses early sun damage and ageing, but increasingly used for preventative rejuvenation. Several treatments are required.  Some people are underwhelmed with the results, and many clinics now offer this as an add-on rather than a stand-alone treatment.

Laser Wrinkle Resurfacing

Laser wrinkle treatment for moderate to severe wrinkling is an entirely different matter. More advanced wrinkles and sun damage require laser resurfacing. The two most common for lasers for resurfacing are CO2 laser and Erbium lasers and have been used for two decades for laser wrinkle treatment.

The most commonly used is CO2 and the newest version of these being fractionated lasers. This offer quicker recovery, less side than the original laser wrinkle treatments. Downtime can still be up to 2 weeks.

Erbium Laser Resurfacing is used for moderately deep facial lines and wrinkles. It can be used on hands, neck and check. There is less downtime than the CO2 laser and can be used with darker skin types.

Non-Laser Wrinkle Treatments

There are several non-laser wrinkle treatments of skin tightening treatments that are most often included in the discussion of laser treatments.  These include radiofrequency or rf skin tightening, ultrasound such as Ultherapy of Ultraformer. There are also surgical treatments including facelifts, neck lifts and thread facelifts

Thread Lift For Skin Laxity and Wrinkles

When fine lines and wrinkles become more advanced with significant loose skin, then procedures to lift as well as tightening are indicated for optimal results. We offer Silhouette and Aptos thread lifts for face and body wrinkles.

Best Anti-Aging Creams

Anti-ageing and anti-wrinkle creams are essential for proper skin care. However, most people are disappointed by the effect of these. Some active ingredients have the scientific evidence to show they treat multiple ageing concerns, making them anti-ageing essentials. These include correctly formulated vitamin A, B & C, glycolic creams and anti-wrinkle peptides.
Understanding the reason wrinkle and ageing concerns of the skin occur will help you understand the limitations of skin care alone. If you seriously want to treat ageing skin concerns, you will need to look at cosmetic medical interventions. That is why it is best to source affordable skin care, what you save you can invest in medical treatments that will work.

The best anti-ageing cream depends on which signs of facial ageing concerns you. Wrinkles being only one of the superficial signs of facial ageing. The best anti-ageing and anti-wrinkle creams, however, remains a broad spectrum sunscreen.

Signs of Facial Aging and Best Anti-aging Cream

The wrinkles that develop from decreased skin  collagen principally from sun damage:

The best anti-wrinkle creams for these wrinkles contain Vitamin A, B, C, peptides and antioxidants.

  • Wrinkle formation is a combination of muscle movement and decline in skin structural components. Skincare is essential, however, to adequately address movement wrinkles you may need to look at anti-wrinkle injections.
  • Other active anti-wrinkle serums include peptides (Matrixyl, Argeriline, Cu Peptides).
  • Best anti-wrinkle cream for prevention of this form of wrinkles is broad-spectrum sunscreen containing zinc, and use of anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory antioxidants.

Wrinkle formation from a decrease in elastin, collagen, volume loss and skin laxity.

These present as fine lines and wrinkles and result from the combination of sun damage, gravity and intrinsic ageing.

  • The best anti-wrinkle creams that help correct the integrity of the skin are vitamin A, B, C.
  • However this will impact minimally as replacing volume loss to plump face, some form of laser or radiofrequency skin tightening, or Ultherapy to lift.
  • For advanced sagging thread lift of facelift will be required to achieve significant wrinkle treatment.

Hyperkeratinization and texture changes:

Skin becomes rough, thickened, coarse with a dull tone

  • The best anti-ageing skin care for these changes include AHA, BHA, vitamin A, B, C.
  • For early changes in skin texture combinations of skin care and peels will probably be sufficient to keep your skin glowing.
  • Wearing sunscreen will prevent further damage.
  • However, once you have evidence of sun damage, laser resurfacing, radio frequency resurfacing, PDT will be required if you seriously want to improve skin texture.
  • The cosmetic acids that help include Salicylic Acid (2%), Phytic acid 2%, Glycolic Acid 8%.

Skin ageing and pigmentation.

Once again due to sun damage. Anti-ageing creams for pigmentation include a range of products and peels.

  • Vitamin A, B, C and AHA are still central ingredients.
  • Others include hydroquinone, kojic acid, arbutin and azelaic acid.
  • For some pigmentation such as melasma and mild sun damage, this may be sufficient to settle the outward signs.
  • Once again wearing sunscreen and antioxidants to prevent further pigmentation formations.
  • Once more advanced, IPL photo rejuvenation, laser pigmentation treatment. Deeper peels can also help such as Jessner and TCA peels.

Skin dryness can be from change to skin integrity and sun damage to the natural skin barrier.

Skin dryness can occur with other texture changes. The use of moisturisers, especially those containing natural moisturising factors (NMFs) such as ceramides and antioxidants are helpful.

  • The best ingredient for this is Vitamin B (Niacinamide) often contained in anti-ageing serum.
  • Niacinamide changes the way your skin cells hold moisture. Changing skin cells makes niacinamide an ideal element for people with impaired skin barrier.
  • Sunscreen regularly applied also appears to improve the barrier function of sun damaged skin.

Skin redness can appear from sun damage as well as rosacea or skin sensitivity.

There are skin products that help settle and calm rosacea and skin redness.

  • Vitamin B in the form of niacinamide, azelaic acid, rutin are all beneficial
  • The calming effects of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory botanical such as oatmeal, willow bark etc.
  • For real treatment of vascular lesions, broken capillary treatment, treatment of diffuse redness or rosy cheeks you will need to look at IPL or vascular lasers depending on the size and distribution.

Enlarged pores.

Enlarged pores are part of a build-up of dead compacted skin cells and are addressed with the same active ingredients.

  • Salicylic Acid becomes vital as unlike other cosmetic acids it is oil soluble and penetrates into the pore to exfoliate dead compacted cells.
  • Vitamin A in the form of retinol or prescription vitamin A also essential when addressing enlarged pores.
  • Niacinamide once again an essential ingredient to help minimise pores
  • For severe involvement you will need to look at laser resurfacing, radio frequency resurfacing.

Neck Wrinkles & Lines

What can help with crepey neck wrinkles?

  • Vitamin A creams and antioxidants.
  • eMatrix radiofrequency.
  • Fractional lasers may also have a place.

Treatments that help with ‘necklace lines’

  • Wrinkle relaxing treatments.
  • eMatrix radio frequency.
  • Vitamin A Creams & Antioxidants.

How Do Wrinkles Develop?

When we are young, our skin is full of elastin and collagen, when we smile or frown the skin naturally springs back. As we get less young, the natural collagen and elastin become depleted and the repeated expressions cause wrinkles that no longer return to a resting smoothness.

How Do Wrinkle Relaxers Work?

Anti-wrinkle injections work by to relaxing the muscle underlying the lines, resulting in a smoother appearance on the skin surface.

How do Face Fillers Work?

Face fillers are dermal fillers used to plump lines, grooves and hollows that occur on the face. Face fillers come in different brands, with different formulations. They are designed to give structural support to skin that has lost support.

Which face filler is most appropriate depends on the concern. Thin products are used for wrinkles and lines, medium fillers for grooves and thicker products for hollows or furrows that appear from significant volume loss.

The Lines And Wrinkles We Treat The Most

Nasolabial lines is a term used to describe changes that occur between the nose and mouth. They are in fact a natural feature of your face and even young children have these. As we become less young the cheek fat pads descend exaggerating these lines.

How To Treat Nasolabial Lines

Nasolabial lines can be treated with dermal filler in the area of the line or fold. Sometimes a better approach is to replace the lost volume in the cheek area. Restoring cheek volume above the lines and fold result in a lessening in their appearance.
