Hi Carol, This does sound like melasma. The best thing is to come in for a consultation with our cosmetic therapist. Adele will assess the pigmentation and if required she will be able to make an appointment with our Doctor for prescription treatment if she cannot help you. The consultation with our therapist is free, however if you require a medical skin consult there is a charge which is claimable on medicare. Call us on 33505447 to book an appointment if necessary. regards Dr Jo

I have Pigmentation across my forehead & face which I am very embarrased about & which I feel has aged me considerably, I do feel ugly. People comment quite alot asking what the marks are even after trying to cover up with makeup & concealer. I have probably left it way to long to do anything about this.

Hoping you can assist

Warm regards

Hi Katie, Microdermabrasion will not do anything for melasma, and your therapist is correct IPL generally will worsen melasma and is not suitable. Peels work by helping to break down the pigmentation and encouraging exfoliation. However we have found on there own they are not particularly effective and need to be combined with hydroquinone, vitamin C and prescription treatments. Melasma is very difficult to treat and can never be cured. Use of sunscreen becomes very important once you start treatment and may require ongoing or intermittent treatment to keep it under control. The best thing is to come in for a free assessment with our cosmetic therapist at the outset. However if you do need prescriptions you will need to see our Doctor and there is a consultation fee which is claimable on Medicare. Call us on 33505447 if you wish a free assessment at the outset. regards Dr Jo

Hi There

I have extensive melasma at the sides of my forehead and top of cheeks, i recently had microdermabrasion at a very 'well reputed' clinic and they told me that IPL would be the best treatment for this, i was then told by another therapist that micro and peels would be better. After reading on your website that IPL can make melasma worse i am now really confused about what the 'best' treatment is as i have trouble understanding how peels and micro can get down deep enough to make a difference to this deeply imbedded pigmentation!! I am only 28 and hate not wearing make up because of the melasma patches, all i want to even toned skin that i don't feel ugly in!

Can you help?

Hi Jerome, we do not want to over promise to people so we try and stay very conservative and not make false statements about getting rid of melasma as this is simply not possible. In saying this we have worked out a protocol for treatment of melasma and everyone does get some improvement in the appearance of the melasma if they follow it, it is just the degree. Sometimes we achieve spectacular results so keep heart it is worth trying and we will work with you to achieve the best fading we can. Jo

Hi

I have just been to see a skin consultant and have been told i have malasma
just been looking on the internet at treatments and found your website.
It started off as just a small patch on my forehead and has now spread right across to the other side in the last 6 months. Befoer that i never had it. I really should have seen someone eariler but was embarrased about it. After reading your site it doesnt give me much confidence that anything can be done to get rid of this but i have made an appointment for next friday so maybe there is something that can help. i dont want it to get any worse and hope it can get better. It seems it isnt usual in guys so i was tol maybe its something that im eating or taking since it has only happened in the last 6 months or so.

anyway i look forward to coming next friday
to discuss the options i have
