Skin Pigmentation Treatment

Freckles, age spots, liver spots or simply pigmentation: whatever you call it are all caused from sun damage. Skin pigmentation will fade a little with daily sun protection and during winter months however there are treatment options available to help reduce pigmentation and return a more even colour to your skin.

Skin Pigmentation Treatment

There are light based treatments for skin pigmentation and these include laser and intense pulsed light (IPL). Intense pulsed light uses a spectrum of visible light which is pulsed onto the skin and absorbed by elements of colour in the skin. These chromophores or colour attracting elements include skin pigmentation.

  • Facial and body pigmentation can be treated.
  • A series of treatments in required – generally 2-6.
  • Skin Pigmentation fades progressively with each treatment.
  • Surface capillaries in the area are treated simultaneously without additional cost.
  • There is no downtime with the treatment, you can return to work.
  • As the pigment is destroyed it goes darker initially and this progressively fades.
  • Skin Pigmentation Treatment with Intensed Pulsed Light

Not all pigmentation responds to Intense pulsed light so it is important that the type of skin pigmentation is diagnosed first to assess if you are suitable for treatment.

You will need to book in with one of our Doctors for a Medical Skin Consultation, this attracts a fee which is partially claimable on Medicare.

Hi Michelle, the cost of the IPL to treat pigmentation depends on the area being treated. We offer a free assessment and there is no obligation. We will need to diagnose the type of pigmentation first and then discuss the options, explain what is involved and give accurate quotes for treatment. Once you have all the information you can make and informed decision.

Hello I want to find out about removing pigmentation from my face. I had very clear skin until I was in my late 30s and then I started developing really dark pigmentation spots on my cheeks. I really hate it and everytime I look in the mirror it seems that is all I see. I can cover it with makeup but I want to be able to wear less makeup. How should I go about removing the pigmentation spots. Thankyou Janelle

hi i would like to to know what kind of machine are you using to remove freckles from my face and what type of current that used for the machines. thank you.

Hi Joey, we use intense pulsed light treatments to treat freckles. It is a light based treatment that can help in reducing pigmentation over a series of treatments. Generally you will need a minimum of 2 treatments. As it works to progressively fade the pigmentation the number of treatments depends on the desired outcome. It is best to come in for an assessment. We will explain fully what is involved in treatment including possible side effects, answer any questions and provide an accurate quote. This assessment is free so call us on 33505447 if you wish to book an appointment to discuss your options.

hi i m aliza 24 yearz old student.i m suffering from skin pigmentation from last 10 years as its not a barth mark and i have used many medications for its treatment but they cant help me.this skin pigmentation is of blue colour and it is present on my right cheek.

Hi Aliza, the first thing is to come in and get the skin pigmentation diagnosed. We need to know what it is before we can recommend how to get rid of the pigmentation. How big is the pigment spot, if it is small with blue pigmentation it may be a deep mole, in which case you do not want to mess around trying to get rid of it.Call us on 33505447 to book a consultation to assess what it is.

Hi Keishia, it sounds like the dark spots that concern you are post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. IPL is not suitable for treating this type of skin pigmentation but there are some treatments that are worth a trial. The best thing is to get an appointment, we will get a diagnosis on the spots and be able to advise some options. Jo

Hi, I’m 40 yrs old and have several dark sun spots on my face (I was diagnosed they are sun spots). I would love to get rid of them, however, I heard IPL is only works for fair skin. Is it true? In that case, what can I do because I’ve got kind of olive skin.

    10. Posted October 4, 2008 at 4:41 pm | Permalink

Hi Amy, IPL can be used to treat up to a skin type 3 (which can include a little olive in the complexion) for sun spots. We would need to assess your skin type to say if the IPL could be used to treat your sun spots. The initial consultation is free including the skin typing, so you should book in for a free consult and if there is a Medical treatment required Serina will get you booked in with one of our Doctors for prescription treatment. There is a charge with the medical consult, but this is claimable on Medicare. Call us on 33505447 if you want to book and initial consultation.

      Hi Doctor

My name is Jacquelyn and I am searching out treatment for what i understand to be chloasmas. I have never had this “stained” look before and im finding it frustrating and embarassing.
A year and half ago i was put on a very high estrogen pill to counteract painful menstration and having been to the beach a few times it has noticeably reacted. i have had ipl treatments only to find out after reading your sight that it was wrongly diagnosed-ipl has not helped in any way. I have sinced changed the pill, but desparate to get rid of the brown patches on my cheeks, forhead and lips.
my doctor informed me that i might need laser treatment….im needing advice.
      thank you

      Hi Jacquelyn,

The best thing is to come in for a medical consultation. The melasma does not respond to ipl, in fact it can make it worse, but there are some prescription treatments we can try that have a reasonable chance of clearing this. If is best to book in with one of our doctors, there is a charge with these consultations, but it is claimable on medicare, you should get all but $12 back on Medicare.

Call us on 33505447 to book a consultation.

      regards Jo

Hi, i got really burnt a couple of weeks ago and now I have white pigmentation and a lot of freckles. Is there anything i can do to get rid of it, even at home?

    14. Posted March 17, 2009 at 10:26 am | Permalink

Hi Emma, if you developed these after a sun burn we really need to see you to diagnose the skin pigmentation before we could advise any treatment. The consultation is free and without obligation, so call us on 33505447 if you want to come in and see what can be achieved.

      regards Jo

I have noticed that i have brown spots on my cheeks and nose and I am going through menopause. Could this be the reason. I am using Bio-oil. could you please help. I live in Sydney

Hi Mel, unfortunately the answer is no to both questions. IPL cannot be used on lips and it is not safe to use on whilst tanning (from injections or otherwise). I did not know the Melotan was commercially available yet.. your best bet is to talk to the Doctors over seeing your treatment. Jo

hi doctor, now i got the acne which leave pigments after that. i am really disappointed for that whenever i look at the mirror. could your machine remove my scar and pigments thz

    18. Posted August 9, 2010 at 3:32 pm | Permalink

The Intense pulsed light is generally not the best treatment for post acne hyperpigmentation. Generally skin needling is best to treat this type of acne scar/ pigmentation or prescription treatments. The best thing would be to come in for a consultation at the outset. Once we assess the pigmentation type we will be able to give you advise as to what treatment approach is best. regards Dr Jo
