Freckles are small, flat, brown to black marks that occur on the face and other parts of the body from sun damage in childhood. They are more common in fair skinned people and though they are harmless many people elect to remove them for cosmetic reasons.
Intense Pulsed Light ( IPL or s IPL) Treatment for Freckle Removal.
There are several treatments available to get rid of unwanted freckles, but the newest technology with least complications is intense pulsed light treatments.
It is quite amazing technology considering it is non invasive, causes no downtime and gently and progressively improves the colour and texture of skin restoring it to a more undamaged state.
S IPL can remove freckles from the face and body.
Any freckles can be treated with S IPL , most common is removal of freckles on the face however shoulders, arms, back and legs are also common.

Dr Joanne Turner responded on 12 Jan 2008 at 6:24 am #
Hi Emily The cost to remove freckles is dependent on the area, number of spots etc. The best thing is to come in for a free assessment, we will look at what you want treated and be able to come up with a price as well as go through everything with you. Our assessments for freckle removal are free with no obligation.
Ree responded on 02 Feb 2008 at 10:34 pm #
Hi
I am also wondering the cost per treatment and how long it last?? do you have any before and after photo’s I can see? Is the procedure painless what are the side affects?
Thanks
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 03 Feb 2008 at 6:29 am #
Hi Ree, As with Emily come in and we will assess you, yes we have before and after photos so you can see the results of freckle treatments, it is a painless procedure and we assess your skin type first and follow safety protocols to stop side effects. In fact the treatment to remove freckles is fast, safe and pain free.

Hello,
I was wondering whether you could tell me how much it would cost to get my wifes face done. She often complains about freckles.
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 08 May 2008 at 9:35 pm #
Hi Stephen, the cost for freckle removal depends on the area to be treated. Generally it takes 2 treatments spaced one month apart, although it can take up to 4(the response is individual). The best thing is for your wife to call us, or pop in and let us have a look. Our assessment for removing freckles is free and know obligation. When we look we will be able to tell you if we can help or if not the most appropriate treatment. Call us on 33505447 if your wife wants to see us.

Hi… Question, im sixteen, and wanted to know if i needed parental consent? Also wanted to know how much getting two freckles on my face would cost?
Thank You,

Dr Joanne Turner responded on 24 May 2008 at 7:53 am #
Hi Shelbi, if you are still at school you do need your parents consent. The cost of treatment to remove freckles depends on the area to be treated. The best thing is to discuss with your parents and get them to bring you down for an assessment, we can discuss everything with them and you. Call 33505447 if you want to come in for a consultation.

Andrew responded on 20 Jun 2008 at 4:24 am #
Hi,
I’m a 26 year old young man from Hobart with fair to fairish skin and have freckles on my arms, back, legs and feet.
I didn’t have freckles on the top of my feet just below my toes, until I noticed them in 2005.
- Perhaps it was due to a day at the beach in January 2003 and I overlooked putting any sun-screen on my exposed feet on that 30 degrees day.
There are various health and beauty salons with adverts in the yellow pages, as well as so called skin clinics,
but what do I do to make sure I go to a reputable business with genuine professionals, not scamming con artists/practitioners, as many of those business employ just beauticans, “comestic physicans” so called pharmacists and natropaths.
I don’t know if you’ve heard of businesses like Bioscor’s Aestheic Centre and Laserway.
I’m wary of those businesses as it doesn’t seem the health/beauty salons, skin clinics are regulated at all.
Anyone can market/promote a business, much like those dodgy quick finance/loan businesses. I know Bioscor both here in Tas and in Qld and Vic doesn’t have a current ABN.
I don’t want to pay the earth for removing freckles, and is it worth going to a independent GP for their opinion first and their view on the beauty salon/skin clinic industry?
To what extent/factor do genes/hereditary cause freckles and what can I do to hopefully prevent more surprise freckles in the future (as I don’t spend much time in the sun) whilst receiving sufficent vitamin D from the sun?
Regards
Andrew, Hobart
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 20 Jun 2008 at 7:32 am #
Hi Andrew, it is a good question, you do need to find a clinic that is reputable and supervised by a Doctor. The equipment used to treat freckles and sun damage is very powerful and potentially dangerous and needs someone very experienced. It does not necessarily need to be a Doctor doing the treatment, but supervising as all pigmented lesions should be looked at by a Doctor before they are treated to ensure they are just freckles and not something else. I do not know of any operators in Tasmania. I suggest ringing local cosmetic medicine clinics and make some enquiries just ask the question how much experience do you have in removing freckles, what machines they use if there is a doctor to supervise etc. I hope this has been of some help.
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 20 Jun 2008 at 7:34 am #
The second part, yes freckles are very heritary and caused by sun exsposure on people with skin types prone to freckles. If you ring you local cancer council, they will be able to give you guidelines as to the amount of sun exsposure you can have to get the vitamin D you require but to minimise the chance of any further unwanted freckles. tiffany responded on 23 Jun 2008 at 4:41 am #
hi my names tiffany and i also have freckles on my face and i was wondering;
1. what are the side effects
2. does it occur to everyone or depends on the person
3. how long does it last
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 23 Jun 2008 at 12:28 pm #
Hi Tiffany,
1.As far as side effects go, we test patch everyone as a protocol to ensure that the treatment is safe for you. The most you will notice is a mild sunburn like sensation afterwards and an initial darkening of the freckles before they get lighter.
2. The treatment will work on everyone, it is more a matter of how well it works, and this can be individual from complete removal of the freckle to a lightening. If you have a series of treatments you will get progressive lightening. I have not had anyone on whom we have had no response. It does not work well with melasma, but with freckles it is very effective.
3. The treatment will last long term unless you have further sun damage, which if you pay to get your freckles removed I would advise diligent sun protection measures to stop them returning.
I hope this has been of help, the best thing is to call us and come in for an assessment, then we can explain how the pulsed light treatment works to remove freckles.

Hi I am interested in removing freckles from my face shoulders and arms. Is is possible to remove the freckles from lots of areas and could I get all of the areas treated at once. I work in North Brisbane and you guys are quite close to me but would not want to take alot of time off work. Also how much would it cost for treatment of freckles to remove them entirely as I hate them so much. Thankyou for your help.
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 03 Jul 2008 at 6:34 am #
Hi Kimberly, Yes it is possible and perfectly safe to treat all three areas at once. There is no downtime with the freckle treatment and how much it costs will depend on the number of treatments you require. Come in for a free assessment and we will take a look then we will be able to be really accurate with our price as well as go through everything involved. We do alot of treatments to remove freckles, it seems that like you alot of people hate them.

Hi Lucy, where do you live? We are in Brisbane and it is impossible to give even an approximate cost until what area is freckled. The best thing is to come in and get a free assessment, we will go through everything and map get an accurate price to get rid of your freckles.

I was just wondering:
1. Will the treatment permanently get rid of all or most of them (assuming that I use sunscreen and wear a hat etc.)
2. From the info I have given you can I please have a very rough estimate on how much money I may be looking at just for my face.
Please reply,

Dr Joanne Turner responded on 11 Nov 2008 at 6:14 am #
Hi Dave, it is only safe to remove freckles with IPL, though moles can be lightened it is not attempted because of the risk of removing clinical signs that are used to diagnose the moles. Jo

Hey there,
I am a 22 yr old and i have around 50 little freckles on the top of my back all in one spot only which i would like to be removed. If you say that its roughly $50-$80 to remove one freckle…. thats around $4000! Thats very expensive or do you do groups of freckles cheaper?
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 20 Feb 2009 at 8:45 pm #
Hi Beejay, yes it gets much cheaper for bigger areas, because of the overlap of the treatment head field. You may be looking at $200 ( or probably less) for a single small area of freckling on the shoulders. We would need to assess the area to give a truly accurate quote. We do free assessments so the best thing is to come in to see Serina, she will go through everything with you at the time as well as give you an accurate quote.

I want to be able to wear short sleeves without freaking out that people are staring at my shoulders. also recently I noticed I have been getting a few freckles on my legs. anyway I can prevent them turning into the monsters on my shoulders? oh and wat is the most expensive price anyone has paid just for a reference of how much I could be looking at
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 08 Mar 2009 at 11:47 am #
Hi Jess, The cost for freckle removal on the shoulders depends how far down the back the freckles extend. You are generally looking at around $350 for just the shoulder area or up to $590 if it extends down the back at all. The best thing is to come in for a free assessment we will look at the area and be able to give an exact quote. Call us on 33504625 if you wish to come in for a free assessment.

Dr Joanne Turner responded on 03 Jul 2009 at 4:31 pm #
Hi Shane, When we treat with IPL we can treat individual spots but by far the most common treatment is treating areas, so yes we do treat over every freckle in an area. We use a grid like pattern to cover the surface area, rather than focusing on individual freckles, but the effect is all freckles within the grid are covered.
I hope this has been of help.

Hi,
i was just want to know how much would all this cost, and can any ages have these treatments??
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 05 Jul 2009 at 4:22 pm #
Hi Ami, freckle removal is suitable for people from teens through adult hood. However until you are 18 you do need a parents consent to proceed with the treatment. The cost of treatment depends on the area to be treated, a full face for example costs $350 per treatment. We provide free assessment consultations and there is no obligation with these, so it is best to call us on 33505447 to book a free consultation. regards Jo

Please answer,thanks!
Madi
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 07 Jul 2009 at 3:55 pm #
Hi Madi, intense pulsed light treatment of freckles is very safe, and in fact good for your skin because it stimulates collagen and reverses the signs of sun damage (which is what freckles are). So rest assured it will only help with the health of your skin as it removes freckles. However at 14 you would need to get your parents consent for cosmetic treatments. If you are interested book in for a free assessment consultation with your parents. regards Dr Jo

Hi Sam, freckle removal generally takes 2- 4 treatments and you do pay per treatment. We give free consultations and there is no obligation with these so the best thing is to call us on 33505447 to book a free assessment at the outset.

Hello im 14 and i have orange freckles all over my face. Im not worried about my legs and arms right now. But i want my face to look clear without freckles on it and not have to wear makeup. How much would this treatment cost? And would i have to keep paying for each treatment because one of the doctors mentioned it takes 2-4 treatments. thanks
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 28 Jul 2009 at 7:27 am #
Hi Angie, the cost is $350 for full face per treatment to get rid of freckles. The number of treatments is individual and what you get is a progressive fading with each treatment. At 14 with cosmetic treatment we would need to see you with one of your parents, it is a legal requirement. Our assessments are free and without obligation so the best thing is to talk to your parents and come in for a free consultation at the outset. Once we assess your skin to see if you are suitable for treatment we will be able to give you a better idea of what is involved. I hope this has been of help. Jo
Jase responded on 01 Aug 2009 at 7:34 pm #
Hi, I was wondering how effective this treatment is for the whole face. Can the hand device get into smaller areas like the bumps/creases of the nose.? Also, I have lots of freckles under my eyebrow and across the forehead which I would like to remove. Can this be done without too much loss of eyebrow hair and if not, will the hair grow back as strong as before? This is my main concern. Are there alternative methods to remove freckles from around and under the eyebrow? How effective are fading/lighting creams? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Jase.
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 08 Aug 2009 at 8:44 am #
Hi Jase,
Yes the treatment can be used for the whole face and it can get into bumps and creases around the nose , we can treat over boney areas around the eye, so we would need to assess you to say for sure that we can treat the freckles that are concerning you. We do not treat directly over hair, though the handpiece we use for treating freckles will not actually get rid of hair we mask any hair areas for safety.
General fading and lightening creams that you buy over the counter are not effective, however we have a range of prescription treatments and peels that can be effective for treating skin pigmentation. The best thing is to come in for a free assessment consultation at the outset. We will assess what concerns you and be able to give you and idea of what we can treat and your options, as well as accurate costing.
There is no obligation with the assessment, so call us on 33504625 to book a free consultation at the outset.

Hi Emmie, just to treat the nose alone would cost about $90. We do need your parents permission to treat at 12 though, so you would need to talk with them and get them to come in for the consultation. Dr Jo
Anna responded on 21 Aug 2009 at 4:38 pm #
Hello,
I’ve been researching this for quite some time, and I’ve heard that these treatments can actually damage the pigment to the point of it actually creates a little white spot in place of the freckle. I would hate for this to happen to me!
Is this true or what?
Thanks,
Anna
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 22 Aug 2009 at 5:24 am #
Hi Anna, Intense pulsed light is a very powerful treatment and safety and care needs to be taken in application, which is why you need to make sure you have a qualified operator. If you end up with a white spot it is from over treatment and we have never had this happen as we do follow strict safety protocols. The best thing is to find a good clinic and you will be fine. Jo

Dr Joanne Turner responded on 23 Aug 2009 at 5:36 am #
Hi Tammi, to fade freckles you are generally looking at 2-4 treatments, the response is individual, and you may be looking at $280-$350 as a ball park figure, we could not be really accurate until we saw you. We are based at 688 Gympie Rd Chermside, North Brisbane. The best thing is to come in for a free assessment we go through all that is involved in treatment and can give accurate quotes. There is no obligation with the assessment so call us on 33504625 to book a free consultation at the outset. regards Jo

Hey,
i am 14 i want my face done, probably about 60 freckles.
how much would this cost?
do you recomend any creams or face peels that work?
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 23 Aug 2009 at 5:42 pm #
Hi Helen, you are looking at $350 for a full face treatment and generally 2-4 treatments. We do offer package treatments. There are prescription creams that can help fade freckles and sometimes peels can also have an effect however it tends to be the deeper peels which so have some risks associated and I would not recommend this for someone of your age. The intense pulsed light to treat freckles if very safe and actually good for the skin as it promotes collagen production. At 14 you would need to have your parents come in for the consultation as they would need to consent to the treatment. Jo

I have a dark freckle on my lower eyelid which is quite large. How much would it cost to be treated and could it be done?
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 10 Sep 2009 at 6:49 am #
Hi Ant, Intense pulsed light or IPL is not suitable to treat freckles on eyelids, you would need to look at laser freckle removal for this particular area. Jo
Jasmine responded on 16 Sep 2009 at 2:29 pm #
Hey im just wondering would the treatment leave like dents or scars and how long does it take to heal? if u dont have many freckles do u still need to have 2 or more treatments or just 1?
Please reply thank you
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 18 Sep 2009 at 8:56 am #
Hi Jasmine, to achieve fading of freckles you are generally looking at 2 to 4 treatments, it can be individual. It does not leave dents or scars, but treating the freckles they initially go darker and then fade progressively over about 3 weeks on the face and longer on the body. If you are interested in finding out more about treating freckles the best thing is to come in for a free assessment. There is no obligation with this so call us on 33505447 to book a free assessment consultation at the outset. Jo

hi, i live in melbourne so i’m asking for advise more that getting treated since i don’t live in brisbane.
the freckles i have aren’t really caused by sun damage, their genetic. i only have freckles on my face arms and legs, the ones on my face and arms don’t bother me, but the ones on my legs i HATE and would really like to get rid of. i also have a smallish sized light brown birthmark on my left leg ( about the size of a 5 cent coin and the same colour as my freckles) i was just wondering if you happen to know any ways i could fade or get rid of them naturally or if you know about any lazer clinics in melbourne?
thankyou
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 06 Oct 2009 at 9:40 pm #
Hi Anna, The Victorian Cosmetic Institue is a very good and very reputable cosmetic clinic. If you do a Google search you will find them and they will assess and give you options to fade your freckles. I hope this has been of help. regards Jo

Hi Josh, We are based in Brisbane Australia and I do not have any contacts or specific recommendations for freckle removal in Washington State or USA. I am sorry I could not have been of more help. Jo
Debbie responded on 16 Oct 2009 at 1:08 pm #
Hi,
I was wondering how laser treatment goes on a face full of freckles, if it’s possible to have most of them removed. Approx how many treatments would be needed for a face full of freckles?
Thank you
Deb
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 19 Oct 2009 at 10:16 am #
Hi Debbie, the number of treatments required to remove freckles on the face depends on how dark the freckles are to start with. As a general rule we say 2-4 treatments spaced monthly. The cost for full face freckle removal is $350 per treatment. We do free assessments and we explain the process and go through all that is involved. There is no obligation with the assessment so the best thing is to call us on 33504625 to book a free consultation at the outset. regards Jo

Hi. I was wondering if the treatment completely gets rid of the freckles on the treated area, or are some still there after? Also, do the freckles ever come back?
Step responded on 26 Nov 2009 at 9:19 am #
If i get my freckles removed with laser, will if come back even if i try to protect my skin? if so how long does it last? and i hear that will the freckles come back worst than before.. not sure if that’s true.
Thanks
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 09 Dec 2009 at 4:58 am #
Hi Step, the freckles will only come back if you have further sun exsposure, and you are right it is not true that they will come back worse, I guess if you got a severe sun burn they might. Freckles are really sun damage, so if you pay to have them removed the best idea is to protect your skin against further sun exsposure. regards Jo
Hannah responded on 24 Dec 2009 at 7:58 pm #
Hello,
When removing freckles do you feel anything or any pain?
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 26 Dec 2009 at 2:17 pm #
Hi Hannah, freckle removal is not painful, however you do get a mild flicking sensation. We always do a test patch before treatment so you get an idea of what to expect with the treatment. regards Jo

Dr Joanne Turner responded on 09 Jan 2010 at 12:28 pm #
Hi Ellie, sorry I do not know of any clinics down your way. The best way would be to do a local google search with the keywords intense pulsed light, IPL or freckles in it. regards Jo

i have just stumbled across this site, and I am very interested in coming in for a consultation. I live in the brisbane region, so the location of your business is ideal. I am 21 years old, my problem area is just my face, i have a light scattering of freckles on my face. I do not need all of them removed, just enough to make my skin a bit more even…with my freckles comes some reddness, although I am sure the reddness is just made worse by the freckles-seems very uneven with both problems.
If I were to have this treatment done, would I experience scarring/broken skin/swollen areas/scabs. I do realise that the laser would infact leave my skin very sensitive to the sun and probably a bit sore a few days after, but how long until my skin would be recovered? Will the freckles return muc darker after having this done. My one fear is, if i do have this procedure would my freckles return by the hundred? or would they slowly fade back in after time
thank you!
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 23 Jan 2010 at 10:59 am #
Hi Deb, I will answer as best I can in this comment section, however it is best to come in for a consultation to fully answer your concerns.
1. After the treatment you can expect a darkening of the freckles to start with. However the skin is not broken at all and progressively over the next three weeks the darkened areas flake off and lighten.
2. We do not want you having sun exsposure prior to, during or after treatment.
3. There will be a bit of a mild sunburn like sensation for a couple of hours after treatment however this is very mild and settles within the first day.
4. The area of freckles go darker immediately after the treatment, as we are destroying the pigmentation and they then progressively fade. The freckles will only return if you have further sun exsposure.
I hope this has been of help but the best thing is to call and book a free consultation on 33505447 and then we can go through the whole process, anwer all question and give an accurate quote on treatment. regards Jo
Kathy responded on 26 Jan 2010 at 6:13 pm #
Hi, how long does a whole face treatment take?
And with the side effects, how long would the redness and darkening of freckles last?
Thanks.
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 28 Jan 2010 at 12:18 pm #
Hi Kathy, treatment of freckles on a full face will take 20minutes.
1. With the redness afterwards it tends to disappear in one to two days, but this can be camouflaged with makeup so you can return to work.
2. The darkening of the freckles will last two to three weeks, but once again this can be camouflaged with makeup.
In saying this, if you have a really important event coming up it is best to get treatment after this rather than before.
I hope this has been of help. regards Dr Jo

Hi, i got pigmentation marks on my arms i dont know what it is my skin is worst now cant wear any half slives outfits as well and its been from last 4 years ….do you have any fast track treatment for that…
Many thanks.
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 29 Jan 2010 at 12:35 pm #
Hi Nandini, We cannot really fast track the treatment. With fading freckles and skin pigmentation it takes a series of treatments and you get a progressive fading. The best thing is to come in for a free assessment and we will look at your arms and do a test patch, we may be able to give you a better idea of how long the treatment will take at that stage. There is no obligation with the assessment so call us on 33505447 to book a free consultation at the outset. regards Dr Jo

Hi Martin, We do have package deals for treatment of multiple areas and there are also repayment options. The best thing is to call us on 33505447 to book an free assessment consultation. We can then give accurate quotes and explain the whole process. regards Dr Jo

I was just wondering how much it would cost to get frecles removed on both arms which are resonably affected! An estamation would be great so I can start saving up
thanks
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 22 Feb 2010 at 2:12 pm #
Hi James, we would need to see you to give a really accurate quote, but as a ball park figure to remove freckles from both arms you would be looking at around $490 per treatment. If you are interested come in for a free assessment and then we can be really accurate with the quote. regards Jo
