All facial pigmentation is caused from increased amounts of melanin deposited in the skin, however the treatment depends on the underlying cause and depth in the skin.
Common causes of facial pigmentation.
1. Sun damage
Most areas of Australia have high UV levels and the excessive exsposure results in abnormal facial pigmentation as well as premature aging with wrinkles and surface capillaries.
Pigmentation that results from sun damage: freckles, liver spots, age spots and sun spots.
2. Hormonal
All hormal pigmentation results from a combination of increased oestrogen and sun exsposure.
Melasma or chloasma caused by pregnancy or the pill has a maplike appearance common on the upper lip, cheeks and forehead.
Treatment of facial pigmentation depends on the cause.
Pigmentation that results from sundamage responds well to intense pulsed light treatment or laser treatment. Treatment of melasma responds better to skin lightening treatments or fractional laser treatments.
It is important that the cause of your facial pigmentation is correctly diagnosed so an appropriate treatment can be provided.

Hi there,
I would like to remove sun spots, pigmentation and freckles from my face. I also have broken capillaries around the nose and am interested to know which laser procedures would be suitable for me. Can the Fraxel Laser help me with all these conditions? Look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Maria

Hi Maria, Fraxel laser will not treat broken capillaries at all, and is not the best laser for treating pigmentation either. IPL or some form of intense pulsed light treatment is the best for treating the combination of pigmentation (depending on the type) and capillaries. The best thing is to come in for a free consulation and we will assess the type of pigmentation and be able to let you know your options. There is no obligation with the assessment so call us on 33505447 to book a consultation at the outset. regards Jo

Hi, I have very bad hormonal pigmentation. Beauty thearpists have reffered to it as a pregnancy mask. It is on my forehead, around my lips and minor marks on my t section. I have not been pregnant and expect it is due to being on the pill. Is there anything I can do to reverse this?
Thanks

Hi Amber, This pigmentation is called melasma or chloasma. We have a treatment protocol for treatment of melasma that includes prescription creams and peels. Though it is not 100% effective we have a very high success rate with the protocol. If you are interested the best thing is to come in for a free assessment. We will be able to go through what the treatment involves and explain the process to you. There is no obligation with this so it is best to call us on 33505447 to book a free appointment at the outset. regards Dr Jo
