Laser hair removal targets the pigment of the hair called melanin. The light grabs onto the pigment heats up the hair bulb, which injures or destroys it.
However when the light from the laser machine is flashed onto the skin, it will only affect hair that is in active growth phase.
At any one time, the hair in a particular part of the body will be dormant, and there will be no hair in the follicle, the light at this time will have no affect on the hair bulb as there is no hair in the follicle for it to grab onto.
“hair grows in different cycles depending on the part of the body:
treatment cycles are required to catch hair as it passes into its active growth stage”

Do you have to do anything in between treatments for brazilian? (or any hair removal)
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 19 Feb 2010 at 11:47 am #
Hi Mandy, we generally recommend just leaving the treated area alone altogether. The hair goes through a cycle after treatment where it falls out and then slowly starts to grow, so the Brazilian should not need any attention between treatments. Dr Jo
