Surface facial capillaries occur when tiny vessels in the skin are damaged by the sun and other factors, causing them to be permanently visible.
What Causes Facial Capillaries?
Inherited factors: facial capillaries occur more often in individuals with fair skin, blonde or red hair and blue green eyes
Sun damage is the most prevalent cause of surface facial capillaries.
Rosacea is a common underlying cause of facial capillaries.
Alcohol, spicy foods and caffeine can dilate the capillaries but do not cause them.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment For Facial Capillaries
Intense pulsed light is a light based therapy that can be used to treat surface facial capillaries. IPL uses a spectrum of light in the visible light range which is pulsed onto the skin.
The light is then absorbed into elements of colour in the skin, one of these elements is the red in surface capillaries. Once absorbed the light energy turns to heat energy to damage the blood vessel.
There is no down time with the treatments.
4-6 treatments is generally required, although sometimes this is more or less
Treament cost depends on the area affected.
You will need to be assessed by one of our Doctors for diagnosis and skin typing to determine if you are suitable for treatment with intense pulsed light. These Medical skin consultations attract a fee which is partially claimable on Medicare.
