Excessive armpit perspiration is caused by a medical condition known as ‘axillary hyperhidrosis’.
It causes social and work distress far in excess of the severity of the condition itself.

Injections To Stop Excessive Sweating.
Injections more commonly used for cosmetic treatments have become an accepted, effective and simple treatment to stop the excessive armpit sweating.

Frustratingly, TGA regulations in Australia restrict naming of these injections as they are class S4 medication to be administered by a Doctor with training. They are approved for treatment of excessive sweating of the underarm and have a well established safety profile.

What are the injections used to stop excessive sweating? I am 24 and I sweat from my armpits hands and feet, but it is the armpits that really bother me because people see the sweat marks. Even in cold weather it does not take long for big dark sweat marks to appear in my underarm. I would say my armpit sweating is severe, but maybe it only feels that way to me, but it has meant I have turned down jobs because of the uniform I would have to wear, that has got to be crazy right- letting my armpit sweating determine what job I take. If there is an injection that can stop this I want to know, I do not care how much it costs this is reallly starting to depress me. Please let me know what I can do.

Hi Rod, I will email you with the name of the injections we use to stop excessive underarm sweating. With TGA regulations in Australia we cannot publish it. But is is considered the second line of treatment for underarm sweating if aluminium chloride antiperspirants have failed. I have included a link to the international hyperhidrosis website, so you can get an independent look at this treatment. I know from all of the people we treat how horrible excessive sweating can be. Read the information and if you want to give the injections a trial call us on 07 33505447, Sweat Help website.

What are the injections used to stop sweating? I am 15 and even though i may be in a calm, stressless, cool environment i often end up still sweating. It is really annoying and is having an effect on my social life. Please help me
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 01 Sep 2008 at 3:36 pm #
Hi SM, I will email you, but at 15 you would need to come in for a consultation with your parents, you need to talk to them and get them to organise to see me.

Hi Jason, I will email you with details of the products we use to stop armpit sweating. The injections we use are very effective and stop excessive sweating in 2-5 days and can last 7-12 months, this is relief for many people.

Marshall responded on 01 Nov 2008 at 3:07 pm #
Hi, are needles the only treatment available?
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 01 Nov 2008 at 3:44 pm #
Hi Marshall, The first line of treatment to try for excessive sweating of the armpit is a long lasting anti perspirant with aluminium chloride such as drichlor. If this fails then the injections are the next recommended because they are simple, effective and safe way that reliably helps stop the excessive sweating.
Treatment such as liposuction of the armpit can be tried, but it is not as reliable as the injections. The best thing is to come in for an assessment and we will go through everything with you at that time. Jo

Hi Scott,
1. I have emailed the details of the product we use to treat underarm sweating. It is a very safe and effective treatment that stops the sweating for between 6-12 months. (So you might need the treatment once or twice per year to keep the sweating under control.)
2. The treatment takes 2-5 days to start to work and the majority of people achieve a period of non sweating. In a lesser group the sweating is reduced by 75-95% (and I do mean a lesser group as most people achieve a period of no sweating) with a slow gradual return. Even with this reduction it takes the sweating to well within or below the normal range of sweating and it is easily controlled with antiperspirant.
3. The cost of the treatment is $1100
I have included a link to the international hyperhidrosis website, if you cut and paste this into your browser you can read an independent view on the treatment.

Hi
I have really really sweaty feet. They are always soo sweaty. I clean them and use foot powder to stop the odour. Even wearing sandals my feet are wet with sweat. Is there anything I can do. I have heard of an operation where they can make a little cut under your foot and cut the sweat gland??
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 08 Mar 2009 at 12:11 pm #
Hi Candice, the second line of treatment for excessive sweating of the hands and feet is ionotophoresis. If you look on the international hyperhidrosis website www.sweathelp.org you will find heaps of independent information on treatment of excessive sweating. I hope this helps. regards Jo

Jo responded on 24 Jul 2009 at 9:18 am #
Hi Joanne,
I suffer from armpit sweating quite constantly. I have only tried an anti-persperant deoderant. What is the aliminium chloride that you speak about? Can you please email me some information regarding the above as well as the injections, pricing etc.
Many Thanks
Jo
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 08 Aug 2009 at 1:00 pm #
Hi Jo,
The aluminium chloride antiperspirant that is best to trial is drichlor. This is a long lasting (high concerntration) anti-perspirant that can be effective to control excessive sweating. We recommend trialling this first, as if it works and you can tolerate it, it is an inexspensive way to get relief from the excessive perspiration. A high percentage of people however find they cannot tolerate this, or find staining of clothes from the drichlor unacceptable.
If the drichlor fails, or you cannot use it the next line of treatment is injections to stop the sweating.
1. We use B for treatment of hyperhidrosis of the armpit, it is very safe and well established procedure.
2. The treatment starts to work after 2-5 days that will control sweating for 6-12 months from one treatment. So you might need to get the injection once or twice per year to keep the sweating under control.
3. The majority of people achieve a period of no sweat at all, with a lesser group getting a 75-95% reduction.
4. There is no increase in sweating elsewhere with the B treatment.
5. The treatment for the underarms costs $1100.
6. Unfortunately none of our clients have had any success with private health cover.
If you look on the International Hyperhidrosis website, you will find information on treatment of excessive sweating of the underarm with b. I have put the URL below for you to copy and paste. There is also in depth information on treatment of all kinds of excessive sweating on there website…a very useful resource.

I hope this has been of help. If you wish to book an assessment call us on 33505447 to book a time that suits you.

is the injection treatment available in Perth ??
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 12 Aug 2009 at 7:36 pm #
Hi Vik, yes treatment of excessive underarm sweating is most certainly available in Perth. I do not have any specific clinics to recommend, but I would recommend doing a google search for Perth, excessive underarm sweating, or even Cosmetic Medicine Perth. As the treatment we use is also used to cosmetically reduce wrinkles most cosmetic medicine clinics also treat excessive underarm sweating. You will come up with a list of clinics and simply ring and ask of there experience with the treatment. I hope this has been of help. regards Jo
ashleigh responded on 10 Aug 2010 at 5:00 pm #
hi, my names ashleigh and im 14 years old. i have bad sweating problems. i tend to sweat from my armpits. i dont sweat any where else. i would be sitting down doing nothing and i would have sweat patches. i need help but i dont want needles, i dont want to see a doctor either cos its really embarrasing. ive tried the rexona clinical protection deoderant and that seemed to work, anything else though?
Dr Joanne Turner responded on 12 Aug 2010 at 3:29 pm #
Hi Ashleigh, at 14 you would need to get your parents to come to any appointments you required. There is another antiperspirant called drichlor that is long acting and worth a trial before you considered any further treatment. However if the rexona clinical protection is working I would stick with that. You can try putting it on at night as that definitely gives better protection to stop excessive sweating than using it during the day. I hope this has been of help. regards Dr Jo Turner
