Chemical Peels are useful in treatment of sun damage, acne, some types of rhytids (wrinkles) and pigmentation.
What Types of Peels Are Available?
Broadly speaking we categorise peels in two ways:
1. By the depth they penetrate into the skin. Depending on the severity of the condition being treated superficial, medium or deep peels can be used. The deeper the peel penetrates the more effective it is and less treatments are required. Deeper peels are also associated with longer healing time and greater risk of side effects.
2. The type of cosmetic solution used. The condition being treated determines what solution is applied. The choice of peels at SkinRevision included Glycolic, Lactic, Vitamin C, , Salicylic and T.C.A Peels.
Superficial Peels
Most peels performed now are superficial peels. These have effect on the surface skin only and are an exfoliation type treatment. They are useful to improve textural and sometimes pigmentation changes from sun damage and aging. There are limits to their effectiveness.
These peels are provided by our cosmetic therapists.
Deeper Peels
Dr Jane Propsting also performs TCA peels. These require less treatments and generally recommended for more severe sun damage. Some laser treatments are another alternative for this more severe sun damage. You do need to see Dr Propsting for assessment for suitability. During the consultation she will explain what is involved in a deeper peel, including potential risks and provide you with an accurate quote.
