Stop Sweating : Treatment for hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating.

Sweating too much is a medical condition known as hyperhidrosis. Although sweating is a natural and important cooling system of our body, for some people sweating is out of control and occurs at inappropriate times and in quantities far more than is actually needed.

    Sweating

    Sweating Facts

Sweating in the body occurs through two primary sweat glands, the eccrine and apocrine.

  • The eccrine glands produce a clear salty liquid which is odourless
  • The majority of eccrine sweat glands are found on the palms, soles, face and underarms.
  • These eccrine sweat glands are primarily responsible for hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating.
  • The appocrine sweat glands produce a thicker liquid and are found in the armpit and gentital area.
  • When the appocrine sweat combines with the air they produce body odour. To a lesser extent they can be involved in hyperhidrosis and excessive sweating conditions.
  • Sweating how to stop it.

Depending on the body part there are many treatment options available to stop excessive sweating. Though there is no one perfect treatment for all areas, the majority of people do find a solution to stop excess sweating.

    Sweat

Sweat is how your body cools itself and essential to life. Some facts:

  • You sweat mainly under your arms and on your feet and palms.
  • There are two main types of sweat glands eccrine and apocrine.
  • Eccrine sweat is watery and odorless
  • Apocrine sweat glands occur in the armpit and genital area. They produce a thicker liquid and when it mixes with bacteria on your skin causes body odour.

  • When you sweat too much.

Although sweating is normal when you exercise, are anxious, sick or the weather is hot, some people have a condition called hyperhidrosis whereby they sweat too much even without need.

    Sweat

Sweat fact in great moments in science by Dr Karl Kruszelnicki.

Human sweat has an antibiotic that they called dermcidin that controls infection on the skin - for example, it kills the bacteria E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus, and the yeast Candida albicans.

    More Sweat Facts.

  • there are over 2 million sweat glands on a human body
  • most of these are “eccrine” sweat glands,
  • there are more sweat glands on the soles of the feet, palms, forehead, cheeks and armpits
  • This is not news to people who have excessive sweating, as the eccrine glands mostly the cause of excessive sweating.
In people who have hyperhidrosis, the sweat glands are over sensitive and produce more sweat than is necessary.

How do you know if you have hyperhidrosis

The chances are that if your sweat is causing you distress you have some degree of hyperhidrosis.

    Hyperhidrosis severity scale

Score 1. My sweating is never noticeable and never interferes with my daily activities.
Score 2. My sweating is tolerable but sometimes interferes with my daily activities.
Score 3. My sweating is barely tolerable and frequently interferes with my daily activities
Score 4. My sweating is intolerable and always interferes with my daily activities.

If you score yourself a 2 or higher there are treatment options to help.
