How To Get Rid Of Blackheads

Getting rid of blackheads is relatively easy, however conventional treatments of pore strips, scrubs and facials will not work, except to temporarily extract the contents. Blackheads are caused from a build up of sebum (oil) in the skin pores and blockage of the pore with exfoliated dead skin cells. Being open to air, the sebum and clogged material oxidise and turns dark. Hence the term blackhead.

Blackhead are clogged pores and treatment of blackheads involves exfoliation of pore contents.

How To Get Rid Of Blackheads

Why Conventional Treatments Do Not Get Rid Of Blackheads.

  • Pore strips can only empty the pore temporarily. Because they do nothing to exfoliate or stabilise the pore lining the blackhead will accumulate again very quickly.
  • Extracting the contents with facials also only help temporarily
  • Scrubs only work on the surface and have no hope of cleaning out the pore: these are useless.
  • Salicylic Acid Exfoliates The Pore

BHA (beta hydroxy acid) or Salicylic Acid is the only product that will penetrate the oil in the oil gland and exfoliate the contents and pore lining. Because it progressively exfoliates and empties the pore, the pore is able to shrink and become more refined.

Salicylic acid products needs to be concentration of 1-2% in ph approximately 3. Very few products even if they say they contain salicylic acid will be of sufficient concentration or at appropriate ph to work.

We sell a very good BHA gel.

We sell a very good Salicylic acid gel: Cost $36, 2% concerntration and correct ph. Research has shown that appropriate BHA Gels will start to work within hours of putting on skin. They can be applied once or twice daily and progressively will clear and refine pores over coming weeks and months. It is safe to use long term as part of skin routine.

In early stages if you want a really speedy clearance of blackheads combine the salicylic acid gel with microdermabrasion. SIMPLE.

    Acne Treatment :Summary

To settle mild acne you may only require over the counter skin care products. Once your acne gets more severe or if it is not settling with skin products alone you need to make an appointment with a Doctor who specialises in acne management.

    Achieve clear skin.

    Summary of available acne treatments.

    1. Over-the-counter skin care products.

  • Cleansers: You should cleanse your skin twice a day with acne. However the cleanser does not need to be anything fancy. I usually recommend Cetaphil, because it is a good hydrating cleanser, that is inexpensive and does the job i.e. cleans your face, so when you put on active ingredients they can penetrate.
  • BHA or salicylic acid gel preparations: (1-2% concentration at ph around 3) Not all salicylic acid products are created equal. We sell a very good product that retails for $36/120ml. Salicylic Acid is very good for UNBLOCKING PORE OBSTUCTION
  • Benzoyl peroxide preparations: There are various forms available and not much difference between them, so once again you do not need to pay allot of money for these. Benzoyl peroxide is good for settling the infection of acne but it can be drying and irritating to the skin. Note: introduce at benzoyl peroxide preparations at a lower strength and increase as your skin tolerates this.
  • Use Mineral Makeup. Though not strictly a skin care product, mineral makeup is the only makeup that should be worn if you have acne. It sits on the surface of the skin, providing a light but very camouflaging cover AND WILL NOT OBSTRUCT SKIN PORES. All other foundations only worsen acne.

    2. Prescription treatments.

  • Antibiotics - if there is a strong infective component prescription topical or oral antibiotics should be used. Because of the risk of antibiotic resistance if you are on antibiotics you should also be using benzoyl peroxide.
  • Topical retinoids, such as tretinoin have a very established place in stabilising pore function. When used in combination with BHA gels they bring about very rapid settling of acne.
  • Other prescription treatments include contraceptive pills for women (some are better than others at keeping acne under control), and Roaccutane. Roaccutane is reserved for severe acne that cannot be controlled with other measures. Severe cystic nodular acne requires Roaccutane to prevent scarring. However people with mild to moderate acne should get control without this.
  • 3. Physical treatments.

  • Microdermabrasion and acne treatment. Microdermabrasion works by clearing pore obstruction and improving skin quality, not only settling acne but also reducing scarring.
  • Chemical peels were once very popular, however there use has declined with less invasive measures such as microdermabrasion.
  • Blue light therapy - used in combination with microdermabrasion. It works by killing the bacteria that causes acne, however its effects may not be long lasting, if you do not have an adequate treatment plan in place.
  • ALA photodynamic therapy gaining use for more resistant forms of acne.
  • IPL and Pulsed light treatments are very effective for settling acne and work also by killing the acne that causes it. This tends to be quite expensive.

Acne Treatment Tip: Wear Mineral Makeup.

Mineral makeup is the only makeup you should wear if you suffer acne or have a tendency to blemishes. Normal cream makeups contain particles that lodge in and block sKin pores: this will worsen acne.

Even cream makeups that say they are oil free will worsen acne. It is not the oil in the cream foundations but the makeup particles that cause the problem.

“never use cream foundation if you have acne”

Mineral makeup the only choice for acne.

Mineral Makeup Does Not Block Pores.

Mineral makeup is made of mineral particles that are too large to lodge in pores. In fact they sit on top of the skin. This means you can wear a heavy cover that disguises blemishes but does not worsen acne.

“a good mineral makeup will feel light and look natural”

Are all mineral makeups the same?

No. In fact some makeups advertised as mineral makeup have other ingredients beside minerals. Choose a good quality brand such as Youngblood to be certain it is not going to cause breakouts. We have chosen to stock Youngblood mineral makeup as not only is it exceptional quality, but also represents very good value compared to other high grade mineral makeups.

Call on 07 33505447 for details on Youngblood mineral makeup or

    Salicylic Acid and Acne

The most common skin problem that annoys people is acne. Acne consists of a variety of skin blemishes including blackheads, whiteheads and pimples. The common underlying factors in all of them is pore obstruction and any skin care to reduce acne blemishes should include a very simple product that exfoliates and unblocks the pore: Salicylic Acid or BHA.

    Salicylic Acid and Acne

    Can Anything Unblock Pores?

The answer is yes, and it is a simple inexpensive product-Salicylic Acid or BHA. Most products on the market containing BHA also contain alcohol, and this is a NO if you want to address acne effectively.

How does salicylic acid unblock pores and clear acne?

With acne the pores becomes clogged with accumulated oil and dead cells, and slowly enlarge and become infected. Salicylic acid is the only product that penetrates the oil and acts to exfoliate deep inside the pore. Using salicylic acid continuously progressively relieves the obstruction and helps to clear acne blemishes.

The process is made quicker with microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion speeds up clearance of all acne lesions by giving enhanced exfoliation. Microdermabrasion acts like a strong vacuum, exfoliating dead and compacted cells and sucking out the pore. Using the combination will give superior results, although plain old salicylic acid on its own does a mighty fine job.

We sell a very cosmetically elegant salicylic acid lotion cost $36 for 118ml, which should last about 2 months. Microdermabrasion packages are available for people who want enhanced clearance.
