It is seldom a truely new lip filler is produced, but at the end of 2007 the first filler designed specifically for the lips was introduced to the market. Considering the range of lip fillers available on the market is it timely to consider the qualities you should look for in a lip filler and how does the new product rate?

What makes a lip filler good?

The four most important qualities:

  • it leaves a soft ‘kissable’ feel
  • it is long lasting
  • it is naturally derived
  • it is NOT permanent
  • The first three of these are obvious but with the lure of permanent fillers why would I recommend against a permanent filler? Quite simply because Lip Fashions Change. Over the last two decades there has been distinct changes in lip cosmetic fashion and currently we are moving into a new ‘hot lip’ look.

    Lip fashions since the eighties.

  • In the late eighties and early nineties the most fashionale lip was the ‘Paris Lip’: the emphasis was on definition of the boarder, with prominent cupids bow, rather than lip volume. (The prominent cupids bow was also the fashion in the 1920’s with Gloria Swanson the star with the sort after lips).
  • By the mid ninties big pouting lips took center stage with emphasis on larger top lips (infamously called ‘trout pout’).
  • Towards the end of the first decade in the 2nd millenium the fashion if now turning to a more balanced look rather than very big volume pouts.
  • The New Lip Filler?

So where does the new lip enhancement filler sit in the mix. It is very soft, derived from natural products, not permanent so girls you can change you look when you want.
But how long does it last? The company is saying up to 14 months! Being conservative we would pull that back to 12 months, but that is really quite good. The real test will be in its use.

Frustratingly, with TGA regulations in Australia, it is illegal for us to name any lip filler injections on our website. They are class S4 medications to be administered by a Doctor or Nurse with training. They have TGA approval for cosmetic use and established safety profile.
