Boots No 7 Protect and Perfect has created a stir worldwide after being aired on the British BBC Horizons in 2007. The question on many people’s lips - what is the secret ingredient in the product?
Boots number 7 contains Palmitoyl Pentapeptide -3
The full Protect and Perfect ingredient list is located further in the article, but the active ingredient that is speculated to reverse photo-aging is Palmitoyl Pentapeptide –3, also known as Matrixyl.

Australian alternative to the Boots No 7.
Research on Palmitoyl Pentapeptide to date.
Studies of Palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 existed prior to the latest research by Professor Griffiths but these had been sponsored by the manufacturers (Sederma and Proctor & Gamble)
The studies compared Palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 to retinol and showed an average of 9 percent increase in skin thickness observed after 4 months for both Palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 and retinol. However the Palmitoyl pentapeptide increased skin thickness faster than the retinol and without the side effects of the later. Source here and here

Australian alternative 5% peptide serum
Because of the lack of availability of Boots No 7 I had a serum developed with the same active ingredients as the Boots No 7 - this peptide serum is available through our clinic. It is a lighter serum than the original more suited to Australia’s humid conditions. The percentage of Palmitoyl pentapeptide in the serum is 6% and it retails for $44 Australian (50ml). An advantage of this particular Palmitoyl pentapeptide serum is, that unlike the original it does not contain parabens as a preservative.

I have been using protect and perfect for 3weeks and have got dry skin on my face and also tiny spots on the eyelids, near the ears and on my jaw line, has anyone experienced the same problem?

Hi Sarah, We do not sell the Boots No 7 protect and perfect, so we have not had experience with it but I know it is quite a heavy formula and should not cause dryness. If it is causing dryness I would be concerned you are having a reaction.
We sell an alternative that is a lot lighter, however if the Boots No 7 is causing problems for you I would not advise trying ours, as it has the same active ingredient.

Hi Jill,
Our Serum has the same active ingredient as the Boots No 7 it is a %6
Palmitoyl pentapeptide in a beautiful light base. It has antioxidants ACE
As added bonus and no parabens, so a good product all round.
It is important to have realistic expectations as to what a skin care
product can do, the studies by Professor Chris Griffiths showed reversing
of photo aging, it can decrease depth of wrinkles and improve texture and
quality of skin , but it is not Botox and fillers. That is the reason I
had a product developed with the active ingredient to assist improving the
quality of the skin by stimulating collagen production.
It will take 8 weeks to start to work, though most people do notice
changes earlier than this. It is not a moisturiser as such but most people find
they do not need a moisturiser. It is safe to use all around the eyes, and
neck and décolletage. You can use it morning and night. If you find any areas
are dry just simply use a moisturiser.
You can only buy the serum from us at present, the cost is $44 Australian
for 50ml, plus $6 postage and handling to anywhere in Australia, so $50
all up.
Call us on 07 33505447 if you are interested in buying our serum,
we can organize purchase over the phone and get your postal details to send it to you.
Regards Jo

Hi Cathy, no the SR serum does not contain sunscreen, many people use it at night as a night cream, so you definitely need to use sunscreen during the day.
Our SR 6% Serum has the same active ingredient as the Boots No 7 it is a %6 Palmitoyl pentapeptide in a beautiful light base. We have new stock arriving next Monday, so the best thing is to call up and get your name on the list to buy.
